Every year, volunteers are given the opportunity to see what it is like to be an archaeologist and excavate an actual site, through our Public Archaeology Program. Mornings will be spent excavating test units, screening soil for artifacts and mapping remains associated with an 18th-century plantation on the park grounds. Afternoons will be spent either at the archaeological site or in the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Lab, doing a combination of hands-on archaeological activities, such as washing, sorting and labeling artifacts, photographing archaeological features artifacts, touring the lab and more.
Public Archaeology is free and open to the public. Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
